THE INDIVIDUAL ONUS

How often do we hear the words, "Prove to me God exists and then I will believe". This always makes me smile when I consider the people asking this cannot even prove they exist nether lone Spirit. How can anyone prove their existence is not a dream? It very well could be, with many esteemed personages such as Rumi and Poe to name but a few, implying that it most certainly is. All the same, dream or not, we exist in this dream or reality. That much is certain. However, this certainty is not arrived at or validated by any empirical evidence whatsoever. "I am" and that is all. That is enough.

The origin of Consciousness cannot be found, even though we claim this Consciousness as our very existence. We do not actually know what it is or where it originates from, we just know that it is. Is everything in the world conscious but at levels too small for us to detect to understand? Or are the only one that is consciousness, dreaming all this within our consciousness? No one really knows and it seems highly unlikely that we will ever know, for as soon as we do, we, as mind, would have control over it, which would be akin to the body having control over the mind. I don't think this is how the nature of life works. The tail does not wag the dog. I believe if we are ever to know ourselves as Consciousness, it would pay to listen to the mystics that have experienced themselves purely as being so. They do not control consciousness, rather they surrender themselves to it and are used by it.

Bearing in mind all is One, there are within this Oneness, two types of Consciousness. There is temporal (mind) Consciousness and then there is nonconceptual (Spiritual) Consciousness that is eternal and infinite. Awareness is the activity of both. Mind Consciousness is like a mirror - it was born in the image of one's true and eternal Consciousness.

"The mind turned inwards is the Self, turned outwards, turned outwards, it becomes the ego and all the world." – Maharshi

Consciousness (I) aka Spirit and Awareness (Am) aka Soul are the unmanifest from which all life springs. Just as well they are unmanifest, for if the eyes of flesh could behold them, then they would use their omnipotence for their own personal gain, much like a cancer cell does in the body. That's never going to happen.

All of us in one way or another are journeying along the road less travelled seeking the ultimate understanding of our existence as Consciousness, with Consciousness of mind.

How does one take a step towards themselves? There is nowhere consciousness is not so you cannot find what was never lost. How conscious we are of this reality is the whole crux of Self-Realization. We do not know what Consciousness is, why it is, where it is and how it is. All we know is, we are conscious. We are Consciousness. Period. All we know is I am. I exist. In a dream, outside a dream, no one knows. All we know is I am conscious of being everywhere all at once, or conscious of being limited somehow or I am not conscious and asleep. Understand the only consciousness that can and does alter is mind or temporal consciousness. It can be asleep, awake, hypnotised, meditating, hallucinating, under the influence of drugs or mental illness, it could be in a coma. Mind Consciousness clearly is subject to the world and everyone else's Consciousness, however, when turned inwards rather than outwards, one's Spiritual Consciousness keeps it in perfect peace.

One thing is abundantly clear when it comes to our understanding of Consciousness and that is, after thousands of years of putting much thought into this particular topic, the mind, through much deep thinking, by many experts, cannot find it, therefore understand it. This is because it is beyond the thinking mind which relies upon the five senses to know. The thinking mind cannot know something that is formless -that is unmanifest.

Thinking clearly has not worked irrespective of how highfalutin and excellent one's thinking is or has been either individually or collectively. Equally clear, is that the mind is the only instrument we have to know our true Self aka true Consciousness. Therefore, it makes sense that perhaps we have been using the mind in the wrong manner. It seems prudent then to consider the idea that it is how the mind used itself if we are to ever go beyond our present limits of understanding. Of course, there are still many that believe there is nothing beyond mind Consciousness, therefore do not bother themselves with finding out.

Whatever is beyond the mind is the creator of mind, so any hopes of using hard and fast or even soft science to know this Consciousness that is sometimes coined Spirit or God is not going to cut it. The cornerstone all science is about ability to replicate a study in the physical so that we might control it. Now in this case, that hardly seems sensible or logical does it. Have you ever seen a tail wagging the dog? Or the canvas comprehending the artist? The Consciousness of mind has a much chance has controlling the Consciousness whose images it was born in as the body has of controlling the mind. It is not going to happen.

Whatever God, Spirit or the minds Creator is it is beyond the thinking mind to know. The thinking mind can only know form, it cannot know that which has no from. Only a being mind, whose Mind Consciousness is in either communion or union with its Spiritual Consciousness can comprehend an existence beyond 'objects' subject to mind. Consciousness is a non-object. If it were an object, then the mind would have grasped it by now. The mind has not. We know we are consciousness, but we do not know what consciousness is. It is obvious then that knowledge of the non-self is beyond the ability for science in its present form, to study or understand. Anything beyond the senses to detect, which conscious awareness is, is beyond science and the limited parameters constituting contemporary science at this time. The mind cannot think what it does not know and what is does not know is vast.

This is why we have such branches as metaphysics and ontology, as well as many other Spiritual Schools of thought, and why we have mystics and gurus, for they are the ones we turn to when it comes to understanding life beyond the mind/body and the senses it uses to understand reality. The Mystic, the Guru etc does not look outwards using the 5 senses. Rather they look inwards with a meditatively open heart and Inner I that allows for the illuminated flow of one's true and eternal Consciousness to fill their minds and hearts that both guides and informs them.

The onus is on the individual for our own personal experience of consciousness is sacrosanct and inherently and innately our own until it isn’t, and we discover a Consciousness that knows no differentiation. You can no sooner prove your consciousness any more than you can prove you exist.

In time to come we will not rely on the thinking mind to give us our understanding of our existential reality. We will not take thought and create from the mental realm. Instead, we will rise consciously to the Spiritual Realm where our Consciousness is One - where it is omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient. In this manner we will rely on Knowing aka Faith. We will be led by your true Intelligence - our true Consciousness, our true Awareness which is our true Heart and Soul to know and be in the world.
