The tree of life is accessed by the Inner I (Conscious Mind Aka thought) that is quiescent, receptive, and still and ever attentive to intuitive and inspiration guidance from within. Such Spiritual Guidance is cognized and manifested by Mind for the body and senses to enjoy. This is creation as it should be. This is living from the inside out, from one's true Self as Spirit that is always whole, never divided. This is direct knowledge.
Self unites so there is One, there is love.
The tree of Good and evil is accessed by a Mind that uses the Inner I to create thought, rather than receive thought from Spirit. The mind uses the senses to look out upon the world in order to inform it of what it 'thinks' to be reality. The mind takes in what the senses tell it, holding in mind what already is, thereby recreating life rather than creating it. This is life created by the mind, which is always dual, meaning always good and evil. The mind, disconnected to itself Spiritually, cannot know good without comparing it to evil. Likewise, the mind cannot know evil without comparing it to good. Therefore, even one who desires to be good, will still inadvertently produce its opposite eventually as the opposite must be held in mind subconsciously for the mind to know what is good. Whatever is held in mind subconsciously will always come to pass. This is indirect knowledge used by the Ego.
Mind divides, so that is individuality - you and me, them and us, war.
In summary, the Tree of Life creates life from and as Spirit. The Tree of Good and Evil creates Life from the level of mind, due to mind believing the mind and body is its true identification.
